Ireland West Airport Knock hosts Prince Albert of Monaco and his Fiancee, Christene Wittstock on the final leg of their visit to Ireland
Ireland West Airport Knock were delighted to host the final leg of Prince Albert II of Monaco and his fiancée Christene Wittstock’s visit to Ireland, on Wednesday evening April 6th.
On the last day of his three day visit, Prince Albert II visited his ancestral home in Newport, Co Mayo. The couple met Irish cousins in Newport House, and an honorary cousin for the day one Minister of State for Tourism Michael Ring who had been instrumental in securing the Mayo visit.
At Ireland West Airport Knock just after 8pm a small group of people bid the couple farewell including Ambassador Paul Kavanagh, Irish Ambassador to France and Monaco, Minister of State for Tourism Michael Ring TD, Cathaoirleach of Mayo cc, Michael Burke and Peter Hynes Mayo County Manager.
Managing Director of Ireland West Airport Knock, Joe Gilmore, also made a small presentation to the couple on behalf of the airport to mark what was a very special and unique occasion for Ireland West Airport Knock.
The Prince was very gracious in his appreciation for the welcome received from staff of the airport and was very impressed with the airport’s modern facilities.
Following the couple’s safe departure the airport provided refreshments in the main Board room for members of the entourage including a number of relatives of the Prince’s extended family from the USA who has travelled over to Ireland to accompany him during what was a unique occasion
