Low cost airline, bmibaby, has reached a milestone at Ireland West Airport Knock as it has carried its 800,000 passenger on its services to and from Manchester and Birmingham. To mark the occasion the airport hosted a visit from the recently appointed managing director of bmibaby, Julian Carr, who traveled over to spend a few days in the West of Ireland and host a media briefing with local media in the region.
The lucky 800,000th passenger, checking in for their flight to Birmingham on Friday 16th July, was Kelly Bench traveling with Dean Farrington and daughter Isobella Farrington and were delighted to receive a bottle of Champagne and two free return flights to either Manchester or Birmingham from Ireland West Airport Knock to mark the occasion.
bmibaby started flying from Ireland West Airport Knock in March 2004 with a service to Manchester, and commenced the route to Birmingham Airport in January 2005. bmibaby now operates up to 14 flights a week between Manchester and Knock and up to ten flights a week between Birmingham and Ireland West Airport Knock.
The routes have proven hugely popular with both leisure and business travellers, and those wishing to visit family and friends. bmibaby is the only low cost carrier to operate services from Ireland West Airport Knock to Manchester and Birmingham, offering two exciting destinations from the region’s local airport.
bmibaby has strongly supported the routes over the years with innovative marketing campaigns featuring their cheeky spokesbaby, Tiny. The routes are heavily promoted in advertising campaigns in media in Manchester, Birmingham and the West, North West and Midlands regions of Ireland. In addition the airline works closely with Tourism Ireland to promote the region, and recently invited top bloggers and online journalists to Ireland West Knock to explore the beautiful Galway region
